Imagine Learning

Imagine Learning Language and Literacy, PreK – 6th Grade

Imagine Learning Language Advantage’s philosophy is a theory of action that promotes a rigorous and equitable development of language that accelerates learning across all subjects, transforming students into stronger and more confident learners. The purpose is to provide high interest texts, game like activities, and fun motivating instructional videos. In summary, Imagine Learning is designed to teach and provide practice in all four aspects of literacy: speaking, writing, reading, and listening. Excellent in supporting English language learners because of the listening and speaking component. Personalized learning pathways are recreated based on the student’s continued responses that mark their unique journey.

Authentic Learning Opportunities:

The real-life work done at the Imagine Museum and Imagine Island ignites the child’s imagination. Adorable cartoon characters become the guides, as students explore and discover new things. Colorful settings of outer space, jungles, a circus stage, and famous sites of historical findings are just the beginning. Open-ended inquiries lead students to higher-level thinking skills. As students explore more, they are supported in developing the language skills that are the building blocks for literacy. Vocabulary Common Core 2.L.4, grammar Common Core 2.L.1, language conventions Common Core 2.L.3 are skills that are addressed in a systematic way.  Students are also given opportunities to use words and phrases that are acquired through conversations, reading independently, and being read to in their responses to texts Common Core 2.L.6. Students direct their own learning in a variety of ways as they select their learning activities and whom they would like to collaborate with.

Developmentally Appropriate Practice:

The creative animation will draw the attention of even your most reluctant learners. Each developmental level is represented in a well-organized systematic pathway. Imagine Learning quickly assesses a child and points them in the right direction. Imagine Learning is a self-paced game-like program that assesses the student’s level when entering the program and along the way to adjust the student’s personalized pathway. A child can also pursue their own interests by making selections from a wide variety of literature and informational texts. Imagine learning is culturally appropriate and is sensitive to the cultures represented in our community. The children pictured in illustrations and in real-life videos represent several ethnic nationalities. Additionally, the children also represent positive characteristics and are wonderful role models.  Selections of the literature and informational text include relevant present-day and historical cultural content.

StoryJumper

StoryJumpers' mission is to help children create and publish their original books with ease. Children write their own text, create characters, choose props, background scenes, photos, record their voices reading, add music, and sound effects. StoryJumper has been rated the number one leading website for creating storybooks. StoryJumper is the winner of several media awards.

Authentic Learning Opportunities

StoryJumper introduces children to the real world of technology and digital formatting. The kid-friendly tabs assist students with selecting text boxes, characters, and props that are added to their pages with just one click. The children will be able to apply these skills to a variety of digit formats. The open-ended possibilities are endless and children create an original book all their own. Children have opportunities to use their thinking skills to make connections to personal experiences or to information that they have gained through research projects. The metacognition element arises as students analyze the best way to present visually the message they wish to convey.  For each book created, the student also has the option to collaborate with peers from the classroom or around the world. Selecting the collaboration option allows others to access and add to the pages of the book as well. Once students have published their books they may share with classmates and receive written comments. The published books can also be shared by projecting the digital book in the classroom and giving the class an opportunity to hear the narration and the soundtrack.

Developmentally Appropriate Practice:

StoryJumper provides a digital platform for presenting opinions, informative, or narrative writing (Common Core 2.W.1, 2.W.2, & 2.W.3).  StoryJumper is also a tool for the production and distribution of writing. The Common Core Writing Standard 2.W.5 states, students with guidance and support from adults and peers, will focus on a topic and strengthen writing as needed by revising and editing.  The Common Core Writing Standard 2.W.6 states, students with guidance and support from adults, will use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers. StoryJumper also provides a way for speaking and listening opportunities. Speaking and listening standard, presentation of knowledge and ideas Common Core 2.SL.5, has the performance expectation of students creating audio recordings of stories and poems, adding drawings or other visual displays to stories or recounts of experiences.  StoryJumper is also culturally appropriate in the many nationalities represented in its character design program. Students select detailed facial characteristics, skin tones, and hairstyles. Students create characters who look just like them, their friends, or people from around the world. The social and emotional learning goal of developing self-awareness and awareness of others is displayed in these artistic presentations. Finally, students can find and view other authors’ story collections in English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Italian, Greek, and Turkish.
